// FREQUENTLY ASKED
Do I need a licence for an air rifle in South Africa?
No licence is required for air rifles under 8 joules (most spring-powered rifles). Air rifles over 8 joules require a firearm licence. All BNT air rifles clearly state their power rating so you know exactly what you are buying.
What is the best air rifle for beginners?
The Artemis SR1000S and B1-4 are our top sellers for beginners. They are spring-powered (no CO2 needed), accurate, and available in combos with scope, pellets, and bag included.
What calibre should a beginner choose — 4.5mm or 5.5mm?
4.5mm (.177) is best for target shooting — cheaper pellets, flatter trajectory. 5.5mm (.22) is better for pest control — heavier pellet with more stopping power. Most beginners start with 4.5mm.
What else do I need besides the rifle?
At minimum: pellets and a target. We recommend also getting a gun bag for transport, a scope for accuracy, and eye protection. Our combo deals bundle everything together at a better price than buying separately.
